Forget the old stories — modern root canal is virtually painless and saves your natural tooth. We stop the infection, relieve the pain, and restore full function — often in a single 60–90 minute visit at KTDA Plaza, Moi Avenue.
Every tooth contains a soft inner layer called the pulp — a bundle of nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue that runs from the crown down through the root canals. When this pulp becomes infected due to deep decay, a crack, or trauma, it causes the severe toothache most people associate with dental emergencies.
Root canal treatment removes this infected tissue through a small access opening in the crown of the tooth. The canals are cleaned and shaped using precision rotary instruments, irrigated with antibacterial solution, then filled and sealed. The tooth is restored with a dental crown, which protects it and restores full biting strength.
At Palace Dental Centre, we use modern rotary endodontic instruments and advanced local anaesthesia to ensure the procedure is comfortable and, in 98% of cases, completed in a single appointment. Patients routinely tell us the experience was far easier than they expected.
After root canal treatment, a crown is recommended to protect the tooth. We offer several crown materials depending on location, aesthetics and budget.
The strongest and most aesthetic option. Tooth-coloured, metal-free, highly durable. Ideal for both front and back teeth. Lasts 15+ years with care.
A metal core covered with tooth-coloured porcelain. Strong and natural-looking — a reliable and cost-effective option for back teeth. Good longevity.
Excellent aesthetics with no metal. Highly translucent for a natural appearance. Best suited for front teeth where appearance is paramount.
Our dentist will recommend the most suitable crown type for your specific tooth at your consultation.
Most patients are surprised to learn how painless and straightforward modern root canal treatment actually is.
This reputation is decades out of date. Modern anaesthetics mean you feel nothing during the procedure. Most patients say it's no worse than getting a filling.
The infection is what causes severe toothache. The root canal removes that infection and stops the pain. Patients typically leave feeling better than when they arrived.
Extraction seems simpler but missing teeth cause bone loss, shifting of adjacent teeth, and bite problems. Replacement options like implants cost significantly more.
Nothing replaces the function of your natural tooth. A root canal lets you keep it for life. With a crown fitted afterwards, treated teeth can last decades with proper care.
Many patients imagine weeks of appointments. Modern rotary techniques have completely transformed this — the vast majority are completed in a single session.
With our modern instruments and techniques, 98% of root canals at Palace Dental Centre are completed in one visit, typically 60–90 minutes.
These symptoms suggest infection or pulp damage. The sooner you act, the better the outcome — and the more likely the tooth can be saved.
Persistent, throbbing pain when biting or applying pressure. Pain that radiates to your jaw, ear or neck is a strong indicator of pulp infection.
Lingering sensitivity lasting more than a few seconds after hot or cold food and drinks — particularly if this is a new symptom.
Swelling around the gum or jaw near the affected tooth. A pimple-like abscess on the gum signals spreading infection requiring urgent treatment.
A tooth that has turned grey or black may have a dead or dying nerve — a sign the pulp needs treatment or removal before further complications develop.
Dental pain severe enough to disturb sleep is a serious warning sign that infection is spreading. Seek urgent same-day treatment.
A very deep cavity or crack reaching the pulp chamber — even without obvious pain yet — typically requires root canal to prevent future infection.
Step by step, here's exactly what we do — so you know what to expect and feel comfortable at every stage.
We take a digital X-ray to map the root canal anatomy, assess the extent of infection, and confirm the diagnosis before any treatment begins.
A topical numbing gel is applied, then local anaesthetic injected. The tooth and surrounding area become completely numb — you feel nothing during treatment.
A small opening is made in the crown of the tooth to access the pulp chamber. A rubber dam is placed to keep the area clean, dry, and bacteria-free.
Infected pulp is removed using precision rotary instruments. Canals are carefully shaped and irrigated with antibacterial solution to eliminate all bacteria and biofilm.
The cleaned canals are filled with gutta-percha (a biocompatible material) and sealed with dental cement to prevent reinfection permanently.
A temporary filling is placed. We then recommend a permanent crown to fully protect the treated tooth and restore its strength and natural appearance.
